SAAC Hosts Special Olympic Basketball Tournament

LEICESTER, Mass.- On Sunday, March 30 the Becker College Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the Unified Player Development Basketball Tournament at the Leicester Gymnasium.

The members of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) managed the event from start to finish. Members of the men’s and women’s basketball team acted as referees, while fellow SAAC members helped with registration and game operations. Four men’s basketball players brought the crowd to their feet when they competed in a slam dunk competition.

More than 300 fans showed up for the event that was comprised of four Special Olympics teams. The teams were made up of players and partners, with the partners acting as coaches. The partners role was to help facilitate play for the athletes and to help them improve their understanding of the game so that they can progress to the Unified Sports Level.   

“It was a terrific day for the Olympians and our student-athletes, and it was a overall it was a very proud day to be the Director of Athletics at Becker College”, said Frank Millerick.
