Baseball Falls To The College of Wooster

Port Charlotte, Fla.- Becker College was defeated by the College of Wooster 16-5 in intercollegiate baseball action.

The nations second ranked team was outhit by the Hawks 13 to 11, but 13 walks by four Becker pitchers was too much to overcome.  Despite being down 3-0 in the top of the first, the Hawks battled back in the bottom half of the inning. After back to back walks from Todd Tompkins (West Haven, Conn.) and Ryan Sczerbinski (Cranston, RI), Weston Meehan (Thomson, GA) singled up the middle to scoring both runners, making the score 3-2.

With the Hawks down 8-2 in the fourth inning Joe Corey (Billerica, Mass.) singled to left field, scoring Justin Nowak (Albany, NY) and Ben Keough (Attleboro, Mass.), cutting the Scots lead to 8-4. That would be as close as the Hawks would get as the College of Wooster improved to 7-1 on the season.  Keenan White earned the win after pitching six innings, allowing 11 hits and four earned runs.

Freshman Austin Phillips (Thomson, GA) led the Hawks on offense going four for four with a double and a run scored.  Joe Spero (Glastonbury, Conn.) took the loss for the Hawks, as Becker fell to 1-2 on the season.
