Baseball Gets Grounded By Eagles
Leicester, Mass.- Daniel Webster pounded out 13 hits on their way to a 14-3 win over Becker College in New England Collegiate Conference baseball action.
Becker got on the board first when senior Ryan Sczerbinski (Cranston, RI.) ripped a double into right centerfield, scoring Joe Corey (Billerica, Mass.). Daniel Webster tied the game at one in the top of the third when Elliot Kilgore (Milford, NH.) scored on a sacrifice fly from Darrik Marstaller (Spofford, NH.).
The score remained tied at one until the top of the fifth inning when Daniel Webster scored seven runs, knocking Becker starter Jeff Dilorenzo (Conventry, RI.) out of the game. Zach Cantor (Windham, ME.) got the inning started with a double down the leftfield line. Elliot Kilgore followed with an RBI single to right field, making the score 2-1. After Josh Chasse (Haverhill, Mass.) singled, Darrik Marstaller drove in two more runs with a double to right field, putting the Eagles ahead for good.
The Eagles added ten more runs on their way to the 14-3 victory. Bruce Brown (Haverhill, Mass.) and Nick Michaud (Windsor Locks, Conn.) belted homeruns for the Eagles. Sophomore pitcher Kory Kiro (Goffstown, NH.) earn the victory, throwing seven strong innings, allowing three runs on nine hits, along with eight strikeouts. With the win Daniel Webster improved to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference.
Sophomore Weston Meehan (Thomson, GA.) hit two doubles and a homerun to carry the Hawks offence. Ryan Sczerbinski chipped in with two hits. Jeff Dilorenzo took the loss for Becker, pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits. With the loss Becker falls to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference.
