Baseball Gets Blanked By Salem State

Salem, MA - Mario Padovanni (Lynn, MA) led the Salem State Vikings to a 3-0 victory over the Becker Hawks on Monday afternoon. Padovanni pitched six scoreless innings allowing only three hits. The sophomore pitcher walked one and struck out three in the combined shutout. 

The Vikings (9-8) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. David Waldron (Lynn, MA) led off the inning with a single and scored on a ground-rule double by Evan Valcourt (Salisbury, MA). Salem State went up 2-0 in the fourth when Valcourt reached on an error and scored on a passed ball. The Vikings then tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Steve Mucci (Wallkill, NY).

Freshman pitcher Jheremy Brown (Agawam, MA) who went the distance, took the loss for the Hawks (2-9) as he gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits and one walk. 

Troy Ingemi (Malden, MA) pitched two innings and gave up two hits in the ninth, but struck out Kyle Beede (Auburn, MA) to end the game and earn the save. 

Waldron finished 2-3 with two singles and one run scored for the Vikings. Todd Tompkins (West Haven, CT) went 2-for-4 with a double for the Hawks. 

The Vikings will host New England College Tuesday, at 3:00 p.m. While the Hawks host Lyndon State on Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m.
