Baseball Splits With Kenyon In Opener

Port Charlotte, Fla.- In their first action of the 2010 baseball season , the Becker College Hawks split a doubleheader with Kenyon College.

In game one the Hawks were shutout 9-0. Freshman second baseman Austin Phillips (Thomson, GA) was the lone Hawk with multiple hits. Errik Maddern (West Haven, Conn.) suffered the loss after pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and eight earned runs.

In game two, sophomore Jeff Dilorenzo (Coventry, RI) pitched a complete game, as the Hawks defeated Kenyon 4-2.

Becker got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when freshman Todd Tompkins (West Haven, Conn.) ripped an RBI single up the middle, scoring Justin Nowak (Albany, NY) and Ben Keough (Attleboro, Mass.).

The Hawks padded their lead in the fifth when Keith Kandel (Fresno, Calif) drove in Ben Keough and Joe Corey (Billerica, Mass.) with an triple into the right centerfield gap, making the score 4-0.

Kenyon got their only runs of the game in the seventh inning when Craig Wocl (Trumbull, Conn) hit a two run homerun down the right field line.
