Todd Tompkins Named 2012 Capital One Academic All-American

Leicester, Mass.- Becker College elementary education major Todd Tompkins (West Haven, Conn.) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Tompkins, a junior, is the first Becker College student-athlete to receive Academic All-American recognition since the institution joined the NCAA in the fall of 1998. Tompkins is also the only Division III baseball player in New England to receive Academic All-American accolades for the 2012 season. "It is truly an honor being named to the Capital One Academic All-American Team. I couldn't have done it without my family, friends, teammates and professors," said Tompkins.

Prior to being named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Baseball Team, Tompkins earned D3baseball.com All American, D3baseball First Team All-Region, NEIBA All New England Team, Capital One First Team Academic All-District Team, First Team All-NECC, Worcester Area Co-Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All Worcester Area.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
