LAKELAND, Fla.- The Becker College baseball team pounded out 29 hits on their way to a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep of Daniel Webster College at Henley Field. The sweep lifts the Hawks record to 6-3 (2-0 NECC) while the Eagles slide to 1-5 (0-2 NECC).
The Hawks clawed their way back to take game one in a slugfest, 16-12 while running away with the nightcap 22-1.
Senior Vaibhav Desai (Waltham, Mass.) led the Hawks with five hits including seven RBI and four runs scored. Josiah Shepherd (Providence, R.I.) and Evan Barrera (Warwick, R.I.) chipped in with four hits apiece, while Randall Minogue (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Niko Bedell (Manorville, N.Y.) added three hits each. Minogue also drove in six runs and registered an inside the park homerun, while Bedell score four runs.
In game two, senior catcher Trevor Read (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had two hits and three RBI including a homerun.
Junior Nicholas Hawrylciw (Amesbury, Mass.) collected the victory in game one after allowing two earned runs in three innings of relief. Chirs LaDou (Worcester, Mass.) preserved the victory after tossing two scoreless innings to close out the game.
Senior Hurler Tyler Wagar (Uxbridge, Mass.) earned the victory in game two, allowing one run on two hits in five innings of work. Kyle Halvorsen (Cornwall, N.Y.) and Kaelan Gillick (Greenwich, Conn.) finished the game off with a scoreless inning apiece.
The Hawks will look for the conference sweep when the two teams meet up for the final game of their three-game series tomorrow afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park; first pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
