Lynx Sweep NECC Doubleheader From Baseball

Chris Testa slides into home

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.- The Becker College baseball team was swept by Lesley University in a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday evening by scores of 5-4 and 3-2.

The sweep lifts the Lynx record to 8-4 (2-0 NECC), while the Hawks slip to 4-9 (2-3 NECC).

In game one, Becker jumped out to an early lead when they plated three runs in the top of the first on a Michael Bianco (Manorville, N.Y.) three-run home run.

Lesley would slowly chip away at the deficit. Ryan Pumphret (Shrewsbury, Mass.) put the Lynx on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI ground out.

After Lesley tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second, Steven DePalma (Albetson, N.Y.) doubled home Ryan Pumphret to give the Lynx their first lead of the game. Lesley added a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 5-3.

In the top of the fifth, Becker pulled within one when Chris Testa (Providence, R.I.) doubled home Josiah Shepherd (Providence, R.I.) to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Becker threated to tie the game in the top of the seventh when they put runners on the corners with two out. Tom Muratore (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) was able to induce a double play to end the game.

Game two recap to coming shortly.
