Preseason Camp Opens For Football
Leicester, Mass.- Despite struggling through an 0-10 season in 2009 there is no shortage of enthusiasm in preseason football camp at Becker College. Third year head coach Bill McDonald and his staff have brought in over 30 freshmen to help reinforce their roster and challenge the upper classmen for playing time.
On offense the Hawks return four starters, including Johnattan Rivera (Dracut, Mass.). Rivera is Hawks top returner in rushing yards with 247 yards and two touchdowns. Bobby Baker (Monroe, Conn.) will once again compete for the starting quarterback position. In 2009 Baker started all ten games for the Hawks behind center. Captain Cameron Coe-Smith (Medford, Mass.) is expected to anchor the Hawks offensive line.
On defense the Hawks return five starters including Jake Bateman (New Bedford, Mass.), who led the Hawks with 82 tackles in 2009. Other key returners on defense are captain Dan Marrone (Leominster, Mass.) junior Tyler Barnes (Cambridge, Mass.) and Tino Lopes (Stoughton, Mass.).
The Hawks will kick off the 2010 season on Saturday, September 4th, when they host Utica College at 2pm on Alumni Field.
