Telegram & Gazette: Marrone has Becker ready to pull its weight

LEICESTER —  Leominster’s Dan Marrone, a senior linebacker on the Becker College football team, sees his responsibilities as working hard, supporting his teammates and providing leadership, on and off the field.

With more than half the players being underclassmen on the Hawks’ preseason roster, Marrone knows what’s on his docket this year.

“My job is to go out there and show leadership, and help all the younger players make the adjustment to college football,” said Marrone, a St. Bernard’s graduate. “It’s also very important that I help these players learn the importance of hard work, something that I’ve always known and done.

“On the field, I just try to play smart, avoid bad mistakes and take advantage of my experience. I just want everyone to go out there and work hard and play hard. It’s been great playing all these years, but things change in college, and the younger players have to be made aware of that.”
