LEICESTER, Mass. - Michael Bianco took home two more postseason awards on Wednesday afternoon. Bianco was selected to the Steve Merc Morris All-Worcester Area Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team linebacker; as well as being named to the 2017 New England Football Writers DIII All-Star Team. Bianco is the first player in program history to be named to the New England Football Writers All-Star Team.
Bianco was a defensive standout both on the Becker squad and in the conference. He led the league in many defensive categories including solo tackles (51), total tackles (119), tackles per game (11.9), tackles for a loss (12.5), and interceptions (5). He also had four sacks on the year placing him fifth in the league and two forced fumbles. Bianco had double digit tackles in every contest except one. He had impressive tackle numbers against MIT and Curry making 22 and 19 stops, respectively. His most notable game of the season came in the Hawks CCC Football victory over Nichols in which Bianco picked off a NCAA record-tying five passes, even returning one for a touchdown. That week Bianco was named CCC Football Defensive Player of the Week. Bianco currently ranks tenth in the country in tackles per game at 11.9 per game.
Bianco's teammate Shane Padeni (Leicester, Mass.) also earned a first-team selection as a defensive back on the Steve Merc Morris All-Worcester Area All-Star Team.
