Lady Hawks Shutout Wildcats

Leicester, Mass.- The Lady Hawks' field hockey team inched closer to a New England Collegiate Conference regular season title with a 3-0 win on Wheelock College today at Alumni Field. The Hawks improved to 8-8 (6-0 NECC) while the Wildcats dipped to 2-13 (2-4 NECC)

The Hawks tallied just two minutes into the game when freshman midfielder Victory Sirchia (Goshen, CT) made a beautiful pass to forward Nicole Lijana (Moorestown, NJ) who had snuck by the Wildcat defense for the easy score.

The teams played the next sixty minutes scoreless. Becker's Sirchia made it a 2-0 score when she buried a cross from the right side from Rachel Fink (Bath, PA). The final goal came off the stick of Katlyn Eisele (Walton, NY) when she beat Wheelock's goaltender Meredith Race (Marion, PA) after Sirchia's drive from the top of the circle.

Becker's netminder Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA) had four saves for her sixth shutout of the season. Race had 5 saves for Wheelock.

It was senior day for Lawrence and defensive back Alicia Buccico (Oxford, MA).

The Hawks return to action on October 21st when they host St. Joseph's College (ME) at 3:00 pm. Wheelock returns home to host Daniel Webster on October 20th at 4:00 pm.
