Field Hockey Soars Into NECC Finals

Leicester, Mass- Becker College advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference field hockey championship with a 4-0 win over Elms College.

Becker scored 1:59 into the game on an unassisted goal by Nicole Lijana (Moorestown, NJ). The Hawks increased their lead with 1:23 remaining in the half when Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, Conn) broke through the Blazers defense, making the score 2-0.

The Hawks put the game out of reach in the second half when Carly Barone (Attleboro, Mass) redirected a Victoria Sirchia shot into the net, making the score 3-0. Kayla Messina (Somerville, Mass) added a goal in the 55th minute, punching the Hawks ticket to their second straight New England Collegiate Conference Championship Game.

Elms goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass) was outstanding in net, making 11 saves in a losing effort. The Blazers finished the season with a record of 3-14.

Nakita Gosselin (Springfield, VT) made one save, as the Hawks improved to 12-8 overall. Becker will host the New England Collegiate Conference Championship at 1pm on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
