Leicester, Mass.- WPI defeated Becker College 3-1 in non-conference women's field hockey action this evening.
The game was scoreless until the final seconds of the first half when freshman Libbi Richardson (Uxbridge, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season, putting WPI in front 1-0.
The Engineers increased their lead to 2-0 just 2:20 into the second half when Celena Dopart (Washington, D.C.) scored an unassisted goal. Becker made things interesting in the 58th minute when sophomore Michelle Griczika (Barre, Mass.) scored her team best third goal of the season, putting the Hawks within striking distance at 2-1.
The Engineers put the game out of reach in the 63rd minute when Libbi Richardson fed Tracy Sinkewicz (Georgetown, Mass.) for her first collegiate goal, securing the 3-1 victory for WPI.
WPI goalkeeper Liz Dufresne (Worcester, Mass.) made one save, as the Engineers improved their record to 5-1. WPI returns to action on Saturday when they begin NEWMAC play with a 1 p.m. tilt at Wheaton College.
Becker goalkeeper Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) made ten saves in a losing effort. The loss drops the Hawks to 1-5 on the season. Becker will return to action on Sunday morning when they host Husson University at 11 a.m.
