Griczika Scores In Loss To Colby-Sawyer

LEICESTER, Mass. – Colby Sawyer junior Nykki Strizinger (Bel Air, Md.) netted a pair of goals to help lead the Chargers to a 3-1 victory over Becker this afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alumni Field.

With the win Colby-Sawyer improves its season mark to 3-2 while the Hawks slip to 0-4 with the setback. Today's contest was started at the 11:41 mark of the first period with the Chargers up 1-0 after poor weather conditions suspended the game on September 1.

Becker started off this afternoon's game by equalizing the game 1-1 at the 26:36 mark when senior Michelle Griczika (Barre, Mass.) corralled up a loose ball and fired it from the left side of the circle. The tally was the first of the season for Becker as a team.

Colby-Sawyer responded with the go-ahead marker in the second period at 46:04 off a rebounded save. Stritzinger notched her first goal of the season by rifling the ball past sophomore netminder Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) off a pass from classmate Alexa Comesanas (Germantown, N.Y.).

With 18 minutes remaining in the contest, Charger junior Hannah Coggins (West Newbury, Mass.) had a clear shot at the net, but she was denied by senior Cameron Rogers (Granby, Conn.), who notched her first defensive stop of the campaign to preserve the one-goal deficit.

But Colby-Sawyer netted an insurance marker with 6:43 left in regulation for the 3-1 final score.

Junior Katherine Kessler (Newport, N.H.) laced a long cross from outside the circle on the left side that Stritzinger tipped off a defenders stick into the cage.

Kessler originally gave the Chargers the 1-0 lead with 17:25 off the clock on a failed clear attempt by junior Rebecca Perley (Sandown, N.H.).

The Chargers finished with the 18-4 advantage in shots (17-3 on goal) and penalty corners (7-0).

Colby-Sawyer sophomore netminder Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) turned aside one shot in the victory for the visitors.

Becker sophomore keeper Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) relieved senior Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) by playing the final 46:41 between the pipes. The pair combined for 13 saves as Gallow stopped seven for the Hawks.

Both squads will take on non-conference opponents on Thursday. Becker entertains Salem State at 3:30 p.m. while Colby-Sawyer heads to Regis for a 6:00 p.m. match-up.
