LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Elms College 2-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference opener at Alumni Field. The Hawks advance to 2-10 (1-0 NECC), while the Blazers descend to 2-11 (0-1 NECC).
Becker sophomore Brittney Bebeau (Harrisville, R.I.) tallied the first goal of the game at 10:41, with a drive from the center of the striking circle.
In the 51st minute, the Blazers had an equalizer opportunity following a corner penalty. Senior Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) broke free from the Hawks' defense and put a shot on net, but junior keeper Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) made the save.
The Hawks secured the victory in the 55th minute when Bebeau capitalized off a rebound from senior Amy Giguere (Colrain, Mass.) to put Becker in front 2-0.
Gallo was a force in net for the Hawks, stopping all seven shots on goal from the Blazers offense. Junior keeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) tallied three saves for Elms.
The Blazers return to action on Tuesday, October 14 when they host Fitchburg State University at 7:00 p.m. The Hawks will host Johnson and Whales University at Alumni Field on Wednesday, October 15 at 4:30 p.m.
