Freshman defender Kayla Hanley (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) of the Becker College field hockey team has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the week ending October 15, 2017.
Hanley was also named NECC Rookie of the Week and Becker Athlete of the Week for the same period.
Hanley had an outstanding Sunday against Bay Path University, leading the Hawks to their first win of the season, 4-2, with a hat trick.
In the 28th minute, Jocelyn Lebel found Hanley for the go-ahead score as the Hawks went up 2-1. It was the first goal of Hanley's collegiate career. Then with just over two minutes left before halftime, Hanley took it in herself, deflecting a shot off the goalkeeper and a defender before the ball found its way into the goal. Finally, with 2:28 left in the game and Becker clinging to a 3-2 lead, Lebel went coast-to-coast and found Hanley for the hat trick as the rookie scored to put the game out of reach.
Becker is back on the field on Tuesday when they travel to Wheelock College for a 7:00 p.m. conference game. Bay Path's next contest will also be against Wheelock, that coming at home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
