Boston, Mass.- Becker College fell to Wheelock College 3-0 in New England Collegiate Conference women's field hockey action Tuesday evening. The win lifts the Wildcats record to 3-9 (2-1 NECC) while the Hawks sink to 1-14 (1-2 NECC).
The offensive pressure started early in the game as the Wildcats amassed nine first half shots. The Wildcats scored the first goal of the game in the 19th minute off a corner from Mary-Kate Pereira (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Pereira sent the ball to Alexandria LeBlanc (Atkinson, N.H.) who passed to fellow senior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.).
The Hawks would keep the game scoreless until Wheelock finally broke through again in the 51st minute of play. Julia D'Onofrio (Salem, N.H.) pushed the ball on a breakaway up the near sideline and sent the ball across the face of the goal where a streaking Melanie Newberg (Raynam, Mass.) put the ball in the back of the net.
Frade was able to score the final goal of the game off another corner from Pereira at the top of the arc to give the Wildcats a 3-0 victory.
Alexis Barry (Manchester, N.H.) made seven saves in a lossing effort for the Hawks.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 21st when they host NECC rival Elms College at 11:00 a.m.
