Suber Carries Hawks Past Lesley
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University men's basketball team
faced off with the number two ranked team in the New England
Collegiate Conference, the Becker College Hawks, and were defeated
75-60 to fall to 4-16 (1-8 NECC). Becker improved to 14-6
(7-2 NECC) with the victory.
Travis Suber (Springfield, Mass.) from Becker scored a game-high 32
points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor including 4-of-9 from
three-point range. Suber was perfect from the charity stripe
as the senior hit all 10 of his free throw attempts. He
played all 40 minutes in the game.
Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) and D.J. Exum (New London, Conn.)
scored 15 and 13 points, respectively for the Hawks.
The Hawks hit clutch shots throughout the night as the Lynx stayed
with single digit points for much of the game. Becker shot
39.1% from long range in the game.
Lynx forward Malcolm Andrews (Medford, Mass.) netted a team-high 20
points in the loss. The junior also grabbed 15 rebounds to
complete the double-double. Complementing Andrews' effort was
sophomore Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.) who scored 17 points and
grabbed eight rebounds, six of which were offensive.
Nijel Robinson (Plainsboro, N.J.) came off the bench to score 11
points.
Lesley pulled to within two points on a three-pointer from Jonathan
Cruz (Haverhill, Mass.) with 9:30 remaining in the game. The
Hawks, however, kept their cool and went on an 18-6 run to put the
Lynx in a 14-point hole with just a few minutes left.
Becker was able to convert 23 Lesley turnovers into 28 points in
the game. Lesley held the advantage in points-in-the-paint at
26-18 and second chance points at 8-2 but timely shooting by the
Hawks helped keep them in the lead.
Lesley will be in action on Tuesday at Newbury College for a 7:00
pm game. Becker will travel to Elms College on the same day
for a match up of the top two teams in the NECC starting at 7:00
pm.
