Hawks Win Third Straight
Leicester, Mass.- Freshman Michael Massey (New Haven, Conn) scored a game high 25 points, to help carry the Hawks past Regis 84-66, in men's basketball action.
In the first half, both teams exchanged leads seven times. Becker led by as much as 6, with just over 9 minutes remaining in the half, but the Pride battled right back. Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass.) hit a three pointer, cutting the Hawks advantage in half. The Hawks were ahead 23-22, until James Cooper (Philadelphia, PA) knocked down a jumper, putting Regis up by 1. The two teams refused to give in, as Regis took a 33-34 lead into halftime.
In the 2nd half, Regis held their lead, until Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) put the Hawks ahead for good on a foul shot with just over 13 minutes to play. The Pride shrank the lead to as much as 2, before Becker went a 9-0 run. Terrance Favors stole the ball under the Regis net and ran the length of the court for the dunk, giving the Hawks a 20 point advantage. The Hawks scored 26 points off of Regis turnovers, to help secure the win for Becker.
Ta'Keame Gomes (Cambridge, Mass.) led the Pride with 13 points. Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, RI) added 11 points and 8 rebounds, in a losing effort. The Pride fell to 4-2 on the year.
Becker had five players in double figures. Markus Wright (New Haven, Conn) scored 19 points and added 11 rebounds to earn his first collegiate double double. Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) and Travis Suber (Springfield, Mass.) had 13 points each. Terrance Favors added 12 points in the winning effort. The Hawks improved to 4-2 on the season.
