Men's Basketball Sunk By Anchormen
Rhode Island College battled through eleven lead changes with Becker College, as the Anchormen held on for a 63-56 win in men's basketball action.
In the first half Becker held an eight point lead before Rhode Island College went on a 9-0 run; which was chapped off by Mason Choice (Newport, RI) layup. With the Anchormen ahead by one, Becker Sophomore Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) nailed a jumper with 00:47 remaining in the half, giving the Hawks a 30-29 lead at the break.
Senior Jake Grimes (Providence, RI) carried the Anchormen with 15 first-half points, going 7 for 10 from the field. Becker Junior Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) led the Hawks with ten first-half points.
In the second half the Hawks jumped out to a six point advantage, only to have Rhode Island College slowly chip away. The Anchormen finally regained the lead on a Carl Lee (Warwick, RI) jumper with 6:42 remaining in the game. Trey Jacobs gave Becker their final lead of the game when he hit a jumper with 3:38 remaining, putting the Hawks in front 55-54. With the game tied 56-56, the Anchormen finally sunk the Hawks for good when Mason Choice pulled down a defensive rebound and set up Carl Lee on a fast-break lay-up, giving Rhode Island College the lead 58-56. Rhode Island College hit 5 of 6 free throws to secure the victory.
Jake Grimes finished with a game high 27 points. Carl Lee finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Mason Choice chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds, as the Anchormen improved to 7-4 on the season.
Trey Jacobs led the Hawks with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jacobs is now just 11 points shy of his 1,000th career point. Terrance Favors and Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn) had nine points each in the lost. Becker fell to 4-7 overall.
