Men's Basketball Powers Past Newbury

The Newbury College mens basketball team lost to Becker College, Saturday afternoon, 87-37. The Hawks shot 56% from the floor in the second half to remain undefeated in the NECC.

Becker junior Rajai Leggett (New Haven, CT/Sheehan) was the Hawks sparkplug as he netted 10 of his team-high 12 points, in the first half. Teammate freshman Mudia Osemwegie (Roselle, NJ/St. Mary) and sophomore Markus Wright (New Haven, CT/Sound) added nine and eight points, respectively, as the Hawks took a 32-point lead into the locker room.

In the second, senior Paul Beckford Jr. (Somerville, MA/Somerville) rebounded, adding eight points to his first half six to finish with a game-high 14 while ripping down 10 boards for his first double-double of the season; but it was not enough to stop the Hawks.

Led by Leggetts 12 points, four Hawks reached double figures en route to their 10th victory of the season. Osemewegie ended the game with 11 while sophomore Terrance Favors (Boston, MA/Bedford) followed up with 10 of his own. Wright sparked the Becker bench by rounding out the players in double digits with 10 points.

With the loss, the Nighthawks fall to 3-5 in the conference and 5-13 overall while the Hawks improve to 10-7 and 6-0 in the NECC
