Hawks Advance To Conference Finals

Leicester, Mass.- Becker College defeated Lesley University 85-53 in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action. With the win the Hawks advance to the conference championship game tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm at Becker College.
In the first half, the two teams exchanged the lead three times before DeJohn Joseph-Exum (New London, Conn.) put the Hawks in front for good with a lay up with 8:36 remaining. The lay up propelled the Hawks on a 20 to nine run to end the half. Junior Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) led all scorers with 13 first-half points. Matt Petrides (Belchertown, Mass.) came off the bench to hit three-three pointers for the Hawks. Lesley University was led by junior forward Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass), who scored seven points, including his 1,000th career point.
The Hawks came out of the locker room on fire as they opened the second half on a 15 to four run. Becker had as much as a 38 point lead on their way to their second straight conference finals. The Hawks finished the game with four players in double figures. Rajai Leggett scored a game high 19 points. Junior point guard DeJohn Joseph-Exum scored ten points in the second half, on his way to 18 for the game. Freshman Mudia Osemwegie (Roselle, NJ) chipped in with 12 points and Terrance Favors(Boston, Mass) finished with ten. With the win the Hawks improved to 18-8 overall.
Lesley was led by senior guard Alex Green (Baton Rouge, La), who scored 17 points. Jesus Trejo chipped in with 11 points and a game high nine rebounds. Freshman point guard John Sanchez (Carson, Calif.) finished with ten points. With the loss Lesley's season ends with a record of 9-18.
