Men's Basketball Remains Perfect In NECC With Win Over Daniel Webster.
Nashua - Junior Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, Md.) notched a game high 21 points leading four players in double figures and the Becker College men's basketball team shot 48-percent from the field on the way to an 88-62 victory over host Daniel Webster College in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Sophomore Terrance Favors (Boston) added 16 points, sophomore Markus Wright (New Haven, Conn.) notched 15 and junior Rajai Leggett (New Haven) chipped in with 12 as the Hawks (8-7, 4-0) remained perfect in league play and won their fourth straight and for the fifth time in their last six outings.
Junior Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) and senior Adam Landry (Vernon, Conn.) led the Eagles (5-8, 1-3 NECC) with 10 points each, while Chris Voukides (Salem, N.H.) added eight points. Eric Suarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down a game high nine rebounds, adding five points.
The Eagles led early on a John Hickson (Springfield, Mass.) three that put the hosts up 11-10 5:37 into the first half, but Becker took control and the lead for good answering with a 11-0 run keyed by layups from D.J. Exum (New London, Conn.), Jacobs, Wright and Leggett for a 21-11 lead with 11:30 remaining in the half.
The Eagles would answer with a 13-1 run of their own including a three from rookie Keith Speed (Columbus, Ohio) and another from outside from Hanson for a one-point deficit (25-24) over a four-minute span.
But a Favors layup and Leggett jumper pushed the lead back to five and Becker would build the lead to as many as 10 before Favors added a layup just before the buzzer to give the Hawks a 12-point lead (48-36) at the break.
The lead grew to 15 on a Matt Petrides (Belchertown, Mass.) three with 13:31 left and the Eagles followed with two quick threes from Voukides to pull back within 10 (58-48) with 12:38 left.
But Jacobs followed with two jumpers and Favors added two at the line to push the edge back to 16 and DWC pulled no closer than 13 the rest of the way.
Becker finished with a 48-20 advantage for points in the paint and added 32 points off turnovers to just eight for the Eagles. Becker finished with a 41-36 advantage on the boards.
Daniel Webster returns to action Tuesday night when they visit Fisher College in a non-league meeting at 7:00 p.m.
Becker visits Mitchell for a NECC matchup Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
