Men’s Basketball downs Lesley, 74-60

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's basketball team won 74-60 over visiting Lesley University on Wednesday evening in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Leicester Gymnasium.

Senior forward Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y. / Campus Magnet) led the Hawks of Becker (11-9, 6-3 NECC) with 31 points, ten rebounds and two blocks. The reigning NECC Player of the Year shot 52 percent inside the three-point arc and 50 percent from beyond the line. Freshman guard Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn. / Universal Audenried) came off the bench and pulled down a career-high 12 boards, to go along with seven points, two assists and a block. Junior guard Jalen Robinson (Queens, N.Y. / Manhasset) and sophomore forward Donzell Cunningham (Linden, N.J. / Piscataway) each finished with ten points to crack double-digits for Becker.

The Lynx of Lesley (11-9, 6-3 NECC) were led by junior forward Joey Martin (Melbourne, Fla. / Heritage) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Jordan Bellitti (Cambridge, Mass.) scored a team-high 16 points while senior guard Will Gibson (Melbourne, Fla. / Holy Trinity Episcopal) finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Becker jumped out to a 12 point lead in the first half when junior guard Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass. / St. John's) stole the ball and fed Durodola for a layup to put the Hawks ahead 19-7 with 10:06 to go in the period. The hosts led by as much as 17 before a late rally by Lesley cut it to as little as 15. Becker went into halftime leading 39-24.

In the second half, the Lynx pounced out of the gate with a 7-0 rally, cutting the lead to eight just 2:20 into the period off a jumper from Bellitti. Back came the Hawks with a 15-4 run, going ahead by 19 off a three-pointer from Durodola. Lesley would not go away quietly, pulling to within eight with just over a minute left. Becker would hold on, however, as Davis hit two critical free throws down the stretch and Cunningham put the exclamation point on the victory with a steal followed by a breakaway dunk with 23 seconds to go.

The Hawks are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wheelock College for a 12:00 p.m. NECC contest. The Lynx play their next game at Southern Vermont College, that also coming on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
