Ice Hawks Downed By UMass Dartmouth


Marlborough, Mass.-UMass Dartmouth scored three unanswered goals in the third period, as the Corsairs defeated Becker College 5-3 in men's hockey action.

Becker got on the board just 1:04 into the game when Mike Caprio (Valencia, Calif) scored his first goal of the season. The Corsairs tied the game 8:12 later when Joe Hill (Newburyport, Mass) scored a power play goal on an assist from Jason Stahl (Londonderry, NH).

The Hawks broke the 1-1 tie 4:55 into the second period on a power play goal off the stick of Jared Kersner (Rockville, MD). UMass refused to back down, as the Corsairs tied the game on Graeme Bourne's (Redlands, Calif) first goal of the season.

The Hawks regained the lead at 8:42 of the second period when Nate Sayer (Dracut, Mass) redirected a Jeremy Norducci (Apex, NC) shot into the net. The goal was the Hawks second power play goal of the game.

Once again the Corsairs battled right back when Todd Bartelson (Pepperell, Mass) scored during a scrum in front of the Hawks net, tying the game at 3-3. UMass scored the eventual game winner 00:24 later on a Nick Marquis (Londonderry, NH) goal.  Joe Hill scored his second goal of the game on an empty netter, securing the win for the Corsairs.

UMass Dartmouth goalie Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, Mass) made 30 saves in a winning effort. The Corsairs improved their record to 1-0. Becker goalie Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, NY) as made 30 saves in the loss. The Hawks fell to 1-2-1 on the season.
