Men's Hockey Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive With 5-3 Win Over WNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Becker College men's ice hockey team ended a six game winless streak with a 5-3 victory over Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The win lifts the Ice Hawks record to 6-15-1 (5-9-1 CCC) while the Golden Bears slide to 7-13-2 (4-10-1 CCC).

Four different Ice Hawks found the back of the net in the game. Senior Nicholas McKee (Bakersfield, Calif.) made his presence felt after an eight game absence due to injury when he put Becker on the board 12:38 into the game on an assist from classmate Connor Allison (Hillsboro, Ore.).

The Ice Hawks held a 1-0 lead until WNE's David Kleyman tied game with a power-play goal 8:27 into the second period.

The Golden Bears excitement was short lived as Becker's Brandon Morgan (Rochester, N.Y. gave the Ice Hawks the lead 1:06 later on a feed from Bryan Parsons (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Becker increased their lead to 3-1 on an Alex Kielczewski (Grand Prairie, Texas) goal with 6:47 remaining in the second.

Tyler Hines gave the Golden Bears life when he found the back of the net on an assist from Stefan Koproske with 5:21 left in the second.

Brandon Morgan scored what proved to be the game winning goal on a power-play, 1:04 into the third period. The Ice Hawks held a 4-2 lead until John Dutney (Hudson, Mass.) lit the lamp on a pass from Bryan Parsons, upping the score to 5-2.

WNE got a late goal from Stefan Koproske to make the final score 5-3.

Becker freshman goalie Grant Martens (Bloomington, Minn) earned his first collegiate victory after turning away 31 shots.
