FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- Becker College skated to a 3-3 tie with Framingham State University in non-conference men's hockey action Tuesday night at Loring Arena. The tie moves the Hawks of Becker to 1-0-1 on the year, while the Rams Framingham State earned their first point of the season with an 0-0-1 record.
After a scoreless first, Becker's Alex Kielczewski (Grand Prairie, Texas) put the Hawks on the board 1:17 into the second on with assists from Brian Greene (Barnstead, N.H. ) and Brandon Morgan (Rochester, N.Y.). Brain Greene would give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage with a power-play goal.
The Rams would cut the deficit in half with 44 seconds remaining in the second period when Jack Pierson and Soren Colstrup connected Michael Gennello for a power-play goal.
Becker capitalized on a Framingham State penalty just 59 seconds into the third period when James Wallace's (Levittown, Pa.) netted fourth goal of the season. The power play goal was set up by Christian Leon (Natick, Mass.) and John Dutney (Hudson, Mass.).
The Rams came charging back with at the 6:14 mark with the fourth power play goal of the night. Matt Siegal tickled the twine on a pass from Ryan Paul to cut the Hawks lead to 3-2. Framingham tied the game with 3:24 remaining in regulation when Ryan McDonough gathered a misplayed puck by a Hawk defender, skating the distance of the ice for a breakaway goal. The score would remain tied after regulation.
In overtime, both teams had their opportunities to win the game, but neither team could find the back of the net. Becker outshot Framingham 7-3 in the overtime period.
Freshman goalie Ryan Clifford (Coventry, R.I.) made 46 saves in his first collegiate start for Becker.
The Hawks return to the ice on Thursday, November 2nd when they begin Commonwealth Coast Conference action against Curry College at 7:00 p.m. The game will be the home opener for the Becker men's hockey team at the new Fidelity Worcester Ice Center in Worcester.
