Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Emerson
BOSTON, MASS. - Becker College's Jon Nessen ( Fr., Levittown, Pa.) scored his second goal of the game with 29 seconds remaining as the Hawks overcame a late Emerson rally to top the lions 12-10 at Emerson's Rotch Field. Nessen's score came 46 seconds after Emerson had rallied from a two goal deficit to tie the game at 10-10.
Emerson took a 3-1 lead in the first quarter responding to Nessen's game opening tally with two goals from Josh Anderson (So., Underhill Center, Vt.) sandwiched around a goal by Joe Shahood (Jr., Dunstable, Mass.). Becker rallied to tie the game at 5-5 at the halftime break as four different Hawks scored.
Becker built a 7-6 lead following a slow third quarter as Bob Loranger (Fr., Billerica, Mass.) and Josh Fask (Jr., Worcester, Mass.) each scored their second goals of the game. To set up a wild fourth quarter.
Emerson opened the fourth quarter scoring with a game tying goal by Roger Tower (Jr., Titusville, N.J.) three minutes into the final stanza. Tony Helias (Jr., St. Albans, Vt.) answered on an assist from Fask. Shahood tied the game for Emerson less than three minutes later on a man-up goal. Becker's Aaron Fill (Jr., Lardner, British Columbia) then tallied back to back markers to give the Hawks a 10-8 lead.
Anderson tallied his fourth goal of the game for the Lions with 2:23 remaining followed by a Joe Greaney (Sr., Medfield, Mass.) bullet 1:08 later to tie the game with just 1:15 remaining. Becker won the ensuing faceoff and worked the ballot Nessen for the game winner. The Hawks added an insurance goal directly off the next faceoff won a shot by Helias.
Emerson goal keeper Pat Curran (Fr., Framingham, Mass.) had 13 saves in his collegiate debut. Peter Fellows (Sr., Boylston, Mass.) had a strong game for Becker making 14 saves.
