AMCATS Clip Men's Lacrosse
PAXTON, Mass. – Led by Niko Langlois’ (Hatfield, Mass.) game-high six points, the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team defeated Becker 15-9 on a rainy Tuesday night at AMCAT Field during Anna Maria’s “Score for a Cure” event. “Score for a Cure” is a fundraiser by the Anna Maria men’s lacrosse team to help fund research of Cerebal Palsy. The win improves the AMCATS to 4-5 (0-3 TCCC) while the Hawks fall to 2-5 (0-0 NECC) on the season.
The AMCATS took an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter led by
Chris Summers’ goal and two assists. Niko Langlois,
Ryan Diffenbacher (Dracut, Mass.) and Matt Lochner (Lima, N.Y.)
also added goals in the frame to help Anna Maria jump out to the
quick first quarter advantage.
The Hawks bounced back to dominate the second quarter, led by Jon Nessen’s (Levittown, P.A.) hat trick and Josh Fask’s (Worcester, Mass.) pair of tallies to even the score at 6-6 heading into half-time. Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.) added his first goal, while Matt Lochner chipped in with his second goal of the contest for the AMCATS. At the half, Becker held a slight advantage in shots (21-19) while Anna Maria held a slight edge in ground balls (29-26) and face-offs (9-5).
Anna Maria came storming out of intermission, outscoring Becker by a 6-1 margin in the third frame to take a 12-7 lead. Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Luke Biggins (Sudbury, Mass.) each added two goals for the AMCATS, while Niko Langlois added a goal and two assists during the period.
Jon Nessen and Joe Ignagni (Kingston, Mass.) added goals for the visitors in the fourth period to bring the score to 13-9, however, Jason Baker (Billerica, Mass.) first goal and Nike Langlois’ third tally of the game preserved the 15-9 victory for the AMCATS.
For the game, the AMCATS held the advantage in shots (42-32), groundballs (61-37) and face-offs (20-7).
Anna Maria was led by Niko Langlois, who had a game-high six points and three assists while also adding three goals. Matt Lochner contributed a hat trick, while Luke Biggins added three points (2 goals, 1 assist) while scooping up a game-high 15 groundballs.
The Hawks were led by Joe Nessen who added a game-high four goals and five groundballs, while Josh Fask and Aaron Fill (Ladner, B.C.) also added a pair of goals and a team-high six ground balls for the visitors.
Becker will return to action on April 3rd traveling to Wentworth at 12:00 pm, while the AMCATS continue conference play Thursday at Wentworth at 7:00 pm.
