Men's Lacrosse Clipped By Vikings

Salem, MA -- A.J. Robertson (Ipswich, MA) and Nate Arminio (Reston, VA) combined for nine goals and two assists to lead the Salem State Vikings to a 14-10 victory over the Becker College Hawks on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The win pushes Salem State's record to 2-3 while Becker remains winless at 0-3.

James Conley (Barnstable, MA) gave the Hawks an early 1-0 lead when he scored just twenty-one seconds into the opening period. Robertson then answered with the first of his four goals less than a minute apart to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. Conley scored again for Becker before Robertson's third goal with eighteen seconds remaining gave Salem State a 3-2 lead at the end of one period.

Robertson and Arminio helped Salem State to a 5-2 lead early in the second before Becker scored three straight times to pull even at 5-5. Jeff Petersen (Syracuse, NY) scored twice during the skein while Conley added his third score of the game for the Hawks.

Matt Whited (Falmouth, MA) and Frank Lento (Salem, MA) regained the lead for the Vikings before John DeAngelis closed the first half scoring with a goal that cut the Vikings' halftime advantage to 7-6.

Salem State built a 13-6 advantage in the third period to pull away from Becker. The Vikings went on a 6-0 run after halftime highlighted by four goals from Arminio and single goals by Max Gansenberg (Beverly, MA) and Corey Davis (Wakefield, MA).

John DeAngelis finally broke the string for Becker scoring his second of the game at the 10:37 mark of the fourth, but Salem's Casey Payne (Longmeadow, MA) answered with another Viking goal to make the score 14-7. Petersen and Conley added their third and fourth goals respectively, which sandwiched a goal by Michael Whalen (Warwick, RI) to make the final 14-10.

Dylan Stevenson (Billerica, MA) made two saves to earn the victory and was relieved by Kyle Tuneburg (Beverly, MA), who made three saves, early in the third.  Michael Munoz (Avon, CT) turned away 17 shots in the loss for the Hawks.

Ryan Gendreau (Danvers, MA) added four assists for Salem State while Arminio and Ryan Ostler (Billerica, MA) had two apiece.

The Vikings outshot the Hawks  44-27 and won 19-of-28 face-offs.

Salem State travels to Mount IDA for a 1:00 PM game this Saturday while Becker will host Regis at 1:00 PM the same day.
