Men's Lacrosse Soars Past Emerson In Opener
LEICESTER, Mass. – Becker College defeated Emerson College 12-5 in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win puts the Hawks record at 1-0, while the Lions fall to 1-1.
Senior attack John DeAngelis (Swampscott, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Hawks 2:30 into the game. Senior attack Dave Deschenes (Gales Ferry, Conn.) followed up with three goals, recording a hat trick in the first quarter, giving the Becker a 4-0 lead after a quarter of play.
Freshman attack Dan Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal early in the second quarter, extending the Becker lead to 7-0. Freshman Myles White (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in withhe his first collegiate goal midway through the second quarter, pushing the hosts lead to 9-0. Emerson got on the board when Nicholas Kitsos (Summit, N.J.) found the back of the net twice in the closing minutes of the first half to make it 9-2 at the break.
Dan Johnson netted two more goals in the third quarter for Becker, sandwiching a tally by Jack Markwordt for Emerson, leading to a 11-3 advantage for the Hawks heading into the fourth.
Deschenes led the offense for Becker scoring 4 goals, while adding an assist. Dan Johnson and John DeAngelis each contributed with hat tricks and one helper each. Freshman Jeff Candee (Madison, Conn.) recorded the win in net for Becker in his collegiate debut. Nicholas Kitsos had a hat trick for the visiting Lions, while Eric Colleran had two assists in the losing effort for the visitors.
Becker plays again on Tuesday February 4 at 4:00 p.m. when they host the Mariners of Mitchell College to open up New England Collegiate Conference play. Emerson will travel to Nashua N.H. on Tuesday, February 4 at 6:00 p.m. to visit the Raiders of Rivier College.
