Men's Lacrosse Soars Past Eagles In GNAC Opener

LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Daniel Webster College 19-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Hawks record to 5-1 (1-0 GNAC), while the Eagles fall to 0-2 (0-2 GNAC).

David Deschenes (Gales Ferry, Conn.) scored three goals and dished out six assists to lead the Hawks with nine points. Matt Matson (Worcester, Mass.) and Shane Balestracci (Pawcatuck, Conn.) finished with hat tricks, while freshman Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) scored a game high four goals.

Becker goalies Jeffrey Candee (Madison, Conn.) and Anthony Jordan (West Hartford, Conn.) split the game in net, turning away five shots.

Daniel Webster was held scoreless until 4:50 into the third period when Dan knupfer (Corfu, N.Y.) tallied his first of his two goals in the game. Anthony Cotoni (Groton, Mass.) also scored a pair of goals for the Eagles.

Daniel Webster goalies James Bushey (Hamden, Conn.) and Curtis Larade (Merrimack, N.H.) combined to make 16 saves.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, March 22. Becker will travel to Johnson & Wales at 3:30 p.m., while the Eagles continue GNAC action at Mount Ida beginning at 3:00 p.m.
