PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Becker College men's lacrosse team tied their best start in program history with a 13-7 win over Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) scored a program record nine goals, while adding an assist in the win for Becker while junior David Deschenes (Gales Ferry, Conn.) had two goals and five assists in the victory for the Hawks.
Freshman Brian Hillenbrand (Portsmouth, R.I.) notched two goals and an assist in the setback for Johnson & Wales.
Johnson & Wales had a 1-0 lead just :49 seconds into the game on a goal by senior Keegan Donaher (Chelmsford, Mass.). The Wildcats took the 2-1 lead at the first intermission. The second period belonged to Becker, however as Johnson scored all four goals to give the Hawks the 5-2 lead heading into halftime. An unassisted goal by JWU sophomore Tyler Thompson (West Chester, Pa.) made the score 8-5 with just over six minutes left in the third quarter, but that would not be enough as Becker then scored three straight en route to the 13-7 victory.
Junior Jack Pettine (Foxboro, Mass.) made 18 saves in the setback for the Wildcats while freshman Jeffrey Candee (Madison, Conn.) had seven stops for Lasell in the victory.
With the loss JWU is now 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the GNAC while Becker improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, March 26th when they travel to Rivier for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
