Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Regis, 12-10
LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Regis College 12-10 in New England Collegiate Conference men's lacrosse action Tuesday evening at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Hawks record to 14-5 (2-1 NECC), while the Pride fall to 9-7 (1-2 NECC).
Regis tied the game with 9:27 remaining in the first when senior attack Matt Vogan (Billerica, Mass.) scored on an assist from Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.). After Becker freshman Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead, Regis took a 3-2 advantage on back to back goals from Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) and Matt Vogan.
The Hawks tied the game with just five seconds remaining in the first quarter when Daniel Johnson netted his second goal of the game.
Nicky Rodrigo gave Regis a 4-3 lead 5:41 into the second quarter on a feed from Peter Fucci (Amherst, N.H.). Becker tied the game when Daniel Johnson scored his third goal of the game to complete the hat-trick. Regis took a 5-4 lead into halftime when Nicky Rodrigo tickled the twine with 1:48 remain in the second quarter.
Becker opened the third quarter with back to back scores from Christopher Bell (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) and John DeAngelis (Swampscott, Mass.), putting the Hawks in front 6-5. Regis tied the game at 6-6 when Matt Vogan scored with a man advantage. The Pride took a 7-6 lead with 4:07 remaining in the third quarter when Nicky Rodrigo completed his hat-trick.
Becker responded by scoring five unanswered goals to take an 11-7 lead. The Pride ended the Hawks run when Peter Leighton scored his second goal of the game with 8:54 remaining in regulation. After Becker's John DeAngelis made the score 12-8, Regis scored two man-advantage goals from Matt Vogan and Alex Ferran (Miami, Fla.) to make the final 12-10.
Becker goalie Jeffrey Candee (Madison, Conn.) turned away five shots, while Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) kept the Pride in the game by making 17 stops.
