Men’s Soccer Enters NECC Tournament As #2 Seed


ATTLEBORO, Mass.--Mitchell has claimed the top seed for the 2008 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Soccer Championship, which begins with semifinal matchups on campus sites Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The Mariners (9-8 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a perfect 6-0 conference record.

Both the Becker Hawks (9-8-1 overall)  and the Daniel Webster Eagles (9-7 overall) tied for second in conference action each with a 4-2 record in 2008 play. 

As specified in the NECC men's soccer championships guidelines, a two-way tie will be broken first by head-to-head results. Becker defeated Daniel Webster 1-0 on October 25 earning the #2 seed and a chance to host one of the two semifinal games.

Daniel Webster earns the #3 seed in tournament play, while the Lesley Lynx (5-12-1 overall) round out the pairings notching the final spot at the #4 seed with a 3-3 conference record.

#2 Becker will host the semifinals on Thursday, October 30th at 6pm. Mitchell will face the #4 Lynx in New London, Conn., while the #2 Hawks will host the #3 Eagles in Leicester, Mass.

The higher seeds earn the opportunity to host the semifinals and championship matches. The NECC sponsors seven men's soccer teams from  nine member institutions.
