Men's soccer defeats Worcester State in thriller

Leicester, Mass.- With 22 seconds remaining in regulation, Becker College defeated cross town rival Worcester State 1-0 in men's soccer action.

In the first half, the two teams were stuck in a defensive battle. Worcester State outshot Becker 8-5. Constantino Partramanis (Worcester, Mass.) had many opportunities to put the Lancers ahead early, but Becker goalkeeper Aaron Fill (Delta, B.C) made 5 fantastic saves, keeping the game deadlocked at the half.

In the 2nd half, both teams continued their defensive battle. With just 22 seconds remaining in regulation, James Diossa (Central Falls, RI) connected with Dircilino DeBrito (New Bedford, Mass.) for the game winner. Diossa passed between two Worcester State defenders finding DeBrito down the middle of the field. DeBrito shot just past the drive of Worcester State goalkeeper Evan Wilga (Dudley, Mass.), giving the Hawks the hard earned victory.

Evan Wilga made 4 saves in a losing effort. Worcester State (4-8-2) will host Westfield State on Saturday at 12:00 pm. Aaron Fill made 9 saves in a winning effort. The shutout was Fill's 2nd of the season. Becker (7-6-1) will host New England Collegiate Conference Rival Elms College on Saturday at 2pm.
