Men's Soccer Falls to Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 15) - Seven different Nichols College players registered points, including sophomore David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.), who netted a pair of first-half goals, as the Bison defeated visiting Becker College, 6-2, Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore transfer Tim Howard (Paxton, Mass.) added a goal and a pair of assists against his former team, while Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.) and first year Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) each tallied a goal and an assist.

Senior Dan Milot (Tiverton, R.I.) scored his first career goal in the game, as did first year Thomas Miller (Braintree, Mass.).

Nichols held a 3-0 lead at halftime courtesy of Johnson's two goals and another from Capitanio. The duo combined for the first goal in the 10th minute as Johnson put in a cross from Capitanio. 10 minutes later, Ryan Wytrych (Feeding Hills, Mass.) passed up to Capitanio at the right corner of the box from the back left. Capitanio then banked in a goal off the left post what intended to be a cross pass for a 2-0 lead.

Howard connected with Johnson with just eight seconds left in the half with a through-ball that Johnson followed up on to give the home team a three-goal advantage at the break.

Nichols added three goals in the second half before Becker got on the scoreboard. Milot swept into the box to bang in a Howard rebound in the 47th minute, and Howard then buried in a rebound from Coderre in the 50th minute for a 5-0 lead. Coderre followed up with his own tally in the 58th minute, collecting a short pass and tapping it in from just in front of the net.

Becker's Luis Cipriano (Westport, Mass.) stole the ball from a Nichols defender and chipped it over goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton's (No. Attleboro, Mass.) head in the 83rd minute to make the score 6-1 in favor of the home team. Kirubel Solomon (Framingham, Mass.) added another tally in the 89th minute, knocing in a cross from Tyler Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.).

Hamilton finished with six saves in the win, while Aaron Fill (Delta, British Columbia) took the loss in the start; he made five saves in the first half before giving way to Marc Wikina (Milton, Mass.) for the second half. Wikina finished with five saves.
