Hawks drop 2 to Lynx

Leicester, Mass. – Lesley University swept a double header against Becker College 3-1 (8 innings) and 13-1 today in opening day New England Collegiate College Conference softball action. With the wins the Lynx improve to 7-4 (2-0 NECC) while the Hawks drop to 2-10 (0-2 NECC).

In game one, Lesley scored the game winning run in extra innings. After a runner had been placed on second base, Emily Mangiariatti (Amherst, Mass.)  sacrificed Jenna Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) to third. Fralick scored on a RBI fly out by Jessica Guevara (Nantucket, Mass.). Lesley also picked up an unearned insurance run in the inning for the 3-1 final.

Becker scored their run in the bottom of the fourth inning on heads-up base running by Lindsay Hanna (Portland, ME). Hanna reached on a pass ball on a strike out, reached second on a wild pitch, and scored on an error by the catcher.

Lynx pitcher Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, NY) finished the game with 12 strikeouts and Becker’s Jessica Lewis (Bellingham, Mass.) pitched 8 strong innings.

In game two Lesley pounded out 19 hits and 13 runs. They started the scoring in the top of the second first baseman Georgia Saltzman picked up two RBI’s on a single to right field for a quick 2-0 lead. Becker cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third on a fielder’s choice RBI by Felicia Laufer (Salem, CT). Lesley put the game away with a 5 run 7th inning.

Catcher Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) went 3 for 5 from the plate and had 3 RBI’s while centerfielder Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) went 5 for 5, scoring 2 runs and batting in 5.  

Becker only collected 3 hits in the game.
