Lady Hawks Split With Nighthawks

Leicester, Mass. - Becker College and Newbury College spilt a doubleheader today in New England Collegiate Conference softball action. The Nighthawks rallied and took game one 6-5 while the home team Hawks got a 7-3 decision in game 2.

Becker's record now stands at 8-16 (3-3 NECC), the Nighthawks are 7-15 (2-6 NECC).

In game one Newbury rallied in the top of the seventh inning to score two runs on a Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) double for the 6-5 lead. Newbury's Katie O'Hara (Abingdon, MD) had 9 strikeouts in the seven inning win.

Becker was led by Amanda Fogaren (Tewksbury, Mass.) who went 3 for 3 and a run scored. Rachel Weidele (Woodbridge, NJ) and Jessica Daniels (Charlton, Mass.) both had 2 RBIs.

In the second game Becker got on board early with a four run first inning. Lindsay Hanna (Portland, ME) had an RBI and scored a run in the inning. Larisa Paula (Lynn, Mass.) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Pitcher Paige Needham struck out 5 in the 7-3 win.

Newbury's leaders were Jessica Jordan (Stonham, Mass.) and O'Connell who had 4 of the 5 team hits.

Becker returns to action when they travel to Mitchell College on Wednesday afternoon for a NECC doubleheader.
