Lady Hawks Clip Bucs

Leicester, Mass. – Juniors Lindsay Hanna (Portland, ME) and Felica Laufer (Salem, Conn.) went a combined 9 for 13 with 2 homeruns and 10 RBI’s as the Becker College Lady Hawks defeated the Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers 17-4 and 10-6 in softball action today.

With the wins the Hawks improve to 7-15 while the Bucs drop to 2-12.

In game one Laufer led off the bottom of the first with a home run, junior Rachel Weidele (Woodbridge, NJ) scored on a wild pitch and Hanna doubled in a run giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Hawks pounded out eleven hits in the game. Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, Mass.) went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI while Amanda Fogaren (Tewksbury, Mass.) went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.  Pitcher Jessica Lewis finished with 2 strikeouts in the five inning 17-4 win.

The Bucs were led by Jess O’Meara (Stoneham, Mass) and Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, Mass.) who both went 2 for 3 with RBIs.

In game two, Tibbetts and Hanna had back to back triples to open a five run second inning to give the Hawks a 6-1 lead. Becker scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth with Bryanna Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) and Paige Needham (Worcester, Mass.) both picking up RBIs. Needham also stuck out 7 batters for the 10-6 win.

Holly McLaughlin once again led Mass. Maritime going 4-for-4 with 2 batted in. Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) also added 3 hits and a RBI in the loss.
