Softball Drops Pair To UMass Dartmouth

Leicester, Mass.- Sophomore pitcher Brittany Eldridge (Raynham, Mass.) struck out 23 Hawks in two games as UMass Dartmouth swept Becker College in a softball doubleheader.

In game one Eldridge shutout Becker 8-0 with a complete game, one hitter.  The Corsairs got all the runs they needed in the top of the second inning when Alyssa Hosford (Attleboro, Mass.) singled in Eldridge for the 1-0 lead. Hosford finished the game with two RBI’s.

In game two, four Becker errors led to five unearned runs as UMass Dartmouth defeated Becker 8-2. UMass jumped on the board in the top of the second on a Diane Barry (Norwood, Mass.) RBI single.  The Corsairs added three more runs in the top of the third inning. After an Emily Surprenant (Attleboro, Mass.) single made the score 2-0, Kaitlin Hogan (Tewsbury, Mass.) ripped a triple into the left field gap making the score 3-0. UMass scored one more in the inning on a Tracie Calvert (Sandwich, Mass.) single, giving the Corsairs a 4-0 advantage.

The Hawks finally got on the board in the third when Felica Laufer (Salem, Conn.) doubled in Paige Needham (Worcester, Mass.), making the score 4-1.

Brittany Eldridge pitched the final four innings of game two, to earn her second win of the day. With the wins the Corsairs improved to 7-11 on the season.  Becker falls to 5-15 on the year.
