LEICESTER, Mass. --- Senior outfielder Rebecca Carkhuff (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst) joined the 100 hit career list as the Becker College softball team swept their Wednesday double-header against the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Russell Field in Leicester, rallying for a 4-2 win in the opener, before running away in the closer, 12-4.
Carkhuff, the Hawks' captain, entered the day with 98 career hits. She reached 99 in the bottom of the second inning of game two on a single. The senior joined the 100 hit club on a two RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the third inning. On the day, Carkhuff finished with three hits and a double, driving in two runs.
The Hawks of Becker (8-10) were led by senior Samantha Lee (Prospect, Conn. / Woodland) who struck out five and gave up just one earned run over seven innings of work in the opener. Lee was also a force at the plate, with three hits on the day including a solo home run coming in the first game. Junior catcher Megan Klemanchuck (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) finished with three hits and three RBI, while freshman Sarah Ellis (Berkley, Mass. / Bristol County Agricultural) finished with three hits including two doubles.
Becker is back on the field on Friday when they play at Anna Maria College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
