Softball splits with Suffolk

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College softball team split their double-header against visiting Suffolk University on Wednesday afternoon at Russell Field in Leicester, winning game one, 13-3, before falling short in game two, 8-7. The Hawks were hosting as the away team.

TOP HAWKS
• Becker senior first baseman Kelsey Weston (Hampstead, N.H. / Pinkerton Academy) went three-for-four on the day with a home run and five runs batted in.
• Sophomore second baseman Alyssa Columb (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) had a brilliant day at the lead-off spot, going five-of-six with three walks and five runs scored.
• Sophomore shortstop Sarah Ellis (Berkley, Mass. / Bristol County Agricultural) finished with three hits, two doubles and four RBI, along with two stolen bases.
• Freshman outfielder Elizabeth Simonian (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn) had four hits, three RBI, and a double.
• Freshman catcher Emily Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass. / Blackstone Valley Technical) finished with three RBI and two walks.
• Freshman pitcher Ashley Veillette (Danielson, Conn. / Killingly) picked up the game one win, allowing just three earned runs over five innings. At the plate, Veillette had one hit, two RBI and drew two walks.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the field on Saturday when they host Mitchell College in a 12:00 p.m. double-header.
