Lady Hawks Claw Past Newbury

The Newbury College Nighthawks dropped an NECC conference game to the Hawks of Becker College tonight 57-87 in Brookline, MA.  The Hawks took just a 2 point lead into the half, but would come out firing on all cylinders in the 2nd half to break the game wide open.

The first half proved to be a battle as the lead would change back and forth on each basket, with both teams shooting just over 35% from the floor. The Hawks went on a small run just before the break giving them the 2 point advantage heading into the locker room.  The second half was a completely different story as Becker would go on a 16-0 run to start the half and never look back.  Leading the way for the Hawks was Senior Captain Beth Pion (Enfield, CT/Enfield) as she recorded a double double with 13 rebounds and a game high 25 points.  Pion also dished out 6 assists and rejected 3 Nighthawk shots in the victory.  In the supporting role for the Hawks was Rachel Pinak (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) with a game high 14 rebounds while also adding 19 points.  Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA/Quaboag Regional) would round out the double doubles for the Hawks with 11 rebounds and 14 points.

Despite the loss, the Nighthawks received 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists from First Year guard Morganna Machado (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro), while Junior Captain Katelyn Mark (Quincy/North Quincy) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.  Shayla White (Dorchester, MA/Wellesley) also added a spark for the Nighthawks with 10 points and 3 steals in the game.
