Lady Hawks Post First Win

 Leicester, Mass.-  Senior guard Courtney Fiske (Westfield, Mass.) poured in a game high 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds as the Becker College Lady Hawks defeated the Southern Vermont Mountaineers 64-37 in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action today at Alumni Gymnasium. The Hawks pick up their first win of the year to improve to 1-9 (1-0 NECC) the Mountaineers drop to 1-8 (0-2 NECC).

 Southern Vermont opened up with three quick baskets led by Christine Henry (Essex, VT.) (4 points) and Corey Higgins (South Glens Falls, NY) to hold a slim 6-4 lead. Becker's Fiske hit a 3 pointer off a Katelyn Cavanaugh (Belchertown, Mass.) missed  free throw  to give the Lady Hawks a 7-6 lead. A lead they would not relinquish. Fiske finished the first half with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Mountaineer Alyssa Davis (West Burke, Vt.) had 8 points in the half. Becker took a 28-21 lead into the locker room.

 The Hawks quickly built their second half lead to 39-27 when Fiske and guard Kristina Desnoyers (Adams, Mass.) hit back-to-back-to-back three pointers.  Becker gained and 19 point advantage when they hit 8 consecutive free throws. The Mountaineers were outrebounded 53-47 and the Hawks had 15 steals in the game.

 In her first collegiate start Cavanaugh had a double-double 10 points and a game high 10 rebounds. Hawks starter Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, Mass.) finished the game with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Desnoyers had 7 steals, 7 points and 5 rebounds.

 Southern Vermont was led by Henry who finished the game with 12 points and 7 rebounds, Tiarra Hall (Washington, D.C.) had 10 points and 9 rebounds and Higgins had 10 rebounds.

 Becker returns to action when they travel to Newbury College on January 12th for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
