Lady Hawks Sunk By Mariners

 Leicester, Mass. -  The Becker Lady Hawks dropped a 68-57 decision to the  Mitchell Mariners in women's New England Collegiate Conference basketball action tonight at Leicester Gymnasium. With the loss the Hawks drop to 3-11 (3-2 NECC) and the Mariners improve to 5-8 (5-2 NECC).

Mitchell took a 35-32 lead into the locker room. Senior guard Jennifer Iglesias (Waterbury, Conn.) led the Mariners with 16 first half points while sophomore Destiney Harris (Bristol, Conn.) grabbed 5 rebounds and made 5 steals. The Hawks top scorer in the half was freshman Katelyn Cavanaugh (Belchertown, Mass.) who chipped in 10 points and forward Courtney Fiske (Westfield, Mass.) who countered with three from behind the arc for nine points. Mitchell held a slight edge in rebounds at 22-21.

Mitchell came out for the second half on fire, they went on a 21-8 run for the first 10 minutes to take a 56-40 lead and put the game away.  Team leaders for Mitchell were Iglesias who finished with 18 points and 3 rebounds, junior Alix O'Neil (New London, Conn.) had 9 rebounds. The Hawks had three ladies in double figures. Cavanaugh had another double double with a game high 18 points and 11 rebounds, Heidi Miller (Sanbornton, NH) poured in 11 points with 6 boards and senior Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, Mass.) finished with 14 points.

Mitchell shot 37% for the game vs. the Hawks 28.8%.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to New Hampshire for a 1:00pm tilt with NECC member Daniel Webster College.
