Lady Hawks Drop Heartbreaker

Leicester, Mass. - Junior Heidi Miller (Sanbornton, NH) scored a team high 17 points and had 9 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the Becker College Lady Hawks dropped a New England Collegiate Conference heartbreaker to Lesley University 68-66 in women's basketball action at Leicester Gymnasium tonight. With the loss the Hawks dip to 3-13 (3-4 NECC) and the Lynx jump to 6-8 (5-2 NECC).

Becker held a 44-41 lead at halftime, the first twenty minutes saw the score tied four times and seven lead changes. Lesley built a five point advantage 22-18 when Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) hit a short jumper at the 12:10 mark. Becker then went on an 8-0 run than included consecutive baskets by Heidi Miller to take their biggest lead of the half at 26-22. The Lynx battled back and when Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, NY) hit a jumper at 2:45 and we had a 37-37 tie. Freshman center Nicole Morse (Alton, NH) came off the bench and scored two big baskets for the Hawks down the stretch to give them the lead into the locker room.

Becker held a seven point lead with just under five minutes to play after a good Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, Mass.) jumper. Lesley battled back and eventually tied the game at 66 with 35 seconds left when Wechsler drove to the basket for two and took a 2 point lead and stole the win with 12 ticks on the clock with another Wechsler lay-up.

Junior forward Wechsler finished a game-high 22 points and 8 rebounds. Lowe added another 17 points and Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) chipped in 18 for the Lynx.

Becker was led by Courtney Fiske (Westfield, Mass.) who had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in 38 minutes.

The Hawks played most of the second half without their starting point guard Kristina Desnoyers (Adams, Mass.) who went down after diving for a loose ball.

The Hawks return to action on Thursday when the travel to Bay Path College for a NECC match-up beginning at 7:00 pm.
