Women's Basketball Falls To Eastern Nazarene
Quincy, Mass- The Eastern Nazarene College Lion's (5-3) women's basketball team opened up the second half of their schedule defeating the Becker College Hawks (0-8), 64-40, to extend their winning streak to five games Tuesday night at the Lahue Physical Education Center on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College. The Lions leapt out to an 11-1 lead in the first half, keeping the offensive pressure on the Hawks and efficiently converting turnovers into points.
The Lions dominated early, but the Hawks closed the lead to within one by sinking three straight three pointers with six minutes to play in the first half. Both teams tightened up defensively but ENC surged late to go into the half leading 25-17.
ENC increased their lead in the second half extending their lead to 31-19 thanks to the strength of Christine Tucker's (Oakland, California) all-around play, contributing 4 steals, 6 assists, and 6 points.
Eastern Nazarene continued to be aggressive defensively, having stayed out of foul trouble and only committing two fouls at the midway point of the second half. The Lions extended their lead to 21 and continued to apply the unrelenting defensive pressure and would go on for their fifth straight win having never trailed at any point in the game.
Katelyn Cavanaugh (Belchertown, MA) had 11 points to lead the Hawks, but Jessica Schoppee (Scarborough, ME) dominated inside the paint to lead all scorers as she posted 21 points and 4 rebounds for the Lions.
The two teams were well matched on the glass as ENC pulled in 38 rebounds to Becker's 39.
Eastern Nazarene (6-3) will look to extend their win streak to six as they square off against Connecticut College at home this Thursday. Becker College Hawks (0-9) seek to collect their first win of the season when they host Southern Vermont this Saturday January 9th.
