Strong Second Half Propels Women’s Basketball Over Lesley

Leicester, Mass. – Becker College used a strong second half to defeat Lesley University 49-35 in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening.

The teams struggled from the field in the first half, shooting a combined 18 percent. Things finally began to click for the Hawks early in the second half as they went on a 16-0 run to start the period.

Sophomore Chelsea Joubert (Westborough, Mass.) carried the Hawks with a game high 19 points, 11 coming in the second half. Classmates Tatiana Mojica (Worcester, Mass.) and Michelle Griczika (Barre, Mass.) finished with ten points apiece. Mojica added a game high 12 rebounds to her total, notching her fourth double-double of the season.

The win lifts the Hawks to 5-14 overall and 5-7 in the NECC. Becker returns to action this Saturday, February 4th, when they host Bay Path College in a pivotal NECC match-up at 1p.m.

Lesley sophomore Emily Fleming (Medford, Mass.) led the Lynx with a team high 18 points and ten rebounds to earn a double-double.  The Loss drops Lesley to 0-18 overall and 0-12 in league play.
